One story seems to embody the very tenets of Marxist theory by refuting the objectification of the poor and the miserable and speaking out against the power of the bourgeoisie. In establishing themselves as a clarion call of an era, these very stories transcend the time they reflect and speak to much wider audiences. These stories present an image of history as a struggle for equity regardless of class or race or gender.
